Austria: Company owner sentenced after alcohol-related crash
A 38-year-old company owner in Austria has been sentenced to a six-month suspended prison term for negligent bodily harm following a car crash in Vitis. The driver admitted to operating the vehicle after consuming alcohol during a celebration, mistakenly believing he was still fit to drive.
The accident resulted in serious injuries to the driver and one of his employees. The driver, who also suffered a life-threatening spleen injury, expressed remorse and provided a 30,000 euro loan to the injured employee to assist with lost wages. In addition to the suspended sentence, the court ordered him to pay 6,000 euros in partial pain and suffering to the victim.
