Austria denies filing EU complaint over Danube riverbed threshold

The Austrian Ministry for Innovation, Mobility, Infrastructure and Technology has denied claims made by Péter Magyar that Austria filed an official complaint with the European Union regarding the construction of a riverbed threshold on the Danube.

While the Austrian government confirmed that the European Commission and the Danube Commission are in direct contact with Hungarian authorities due to the river's economic importance, they clarified that no formal complaint has been lodged. Austria emphasized that ensuring the navigability of the Danube is vital for its commercial and industrial centers, but expressed an understanding of Hungary's need to maintain water levels.

The decision to build the threshold followed record-low water levels in the summer, which nearly forced a shutdown of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant due to insufficient cooling water. The Hungarian government approved a 6 billion forint investment to ensure the plant's operational stability.
