Climatologist Andreas Jäger warns of extreme weather shifts

Austrian meteorologist and climatologist Andreas Jäger has issued a stark warning regarding the trajectory of global warming, stating that the current period may represent the ‘coldest summer in the next 300 years’ in terms of how extreme weather patterns will shift. He emphasizes that climate change is not a hoax but ‘stubborn physics’ that is creating a ‘new normal’ of intense heatwaves, severe droughts, and violent storms.

In Austria, the impact is already visible through record-breaking temperatures, torrential rains, and landslides. Data from GeoSphere Austria indicates that precipitation levels from January to June were 27 percent below the long-term average, with some regions experiencing their driest conditions since records began in 1885.

Jäger highlights water security as a critical looming crisis. The reduction in winter snowpack and glacier melt is disrupting the natural replenishment of groundwater, as snow typically acts as a slow-release reservoir. This shift necessitates a fundamental transformation in agriculture, as current farming methods are no longer sustainable under these changing hydrological conditions.
