Austria initiatives address violence against women

Efforts to combat violence against women in Austria are gaining momentum through both financial support and public awareness. In Upper Austria, an association that has supported victims of sexualized violence for 30 years has received 60,000 € in donations to provide therapy and reduce waiting lists for those in need.

On a national level, political scientist Maria Rösslhumer is calling for systemic changes to address domestic violence as a societal issue rather than an individual one. She has advocated for stricter measures against perpetrators, citing the Spanish model of using electronic monitoring and ankle bracelets. Rösslhumer emphasizes that prevention requires active civic courage, particularly from men, to challenge sexist behavior in daily life.
