Austria invests 482,000 euros in new bomb disposal suits
The Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior has invested 482,000 euros in new protective equipment for police bomb disposal units. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner presented eight new bomb disposal suits to the EKO Cobra special units division on July 23, 2026.
The new equipment replaces older suits that had reached the end of their manufacturer-guaranteed protective lifespan. The investment aims to enhance safety for the 22 bomb disposal experts stationed in Vienna, Graz, and Hall in Tirol, who operate around the clock to manage explosive and incendiary devices.
In addition to the specialized unit, the national explosive response system includes a network of 107 explosive-knowledgeable officers and 63 explosive-detection dogs.
