Austria IT sector salary negotiations end without agreement

The first round of collective bargaining negotiations for Austria's IT sector has concluded without an agreement. The talks, which lasted four hours, affect more than 90,000 employees.

The GPA union is demanding a 3.9 percent increase in minimum wages, total salary sums, apprentice earnings, and allowances. Negotiators for the employers countered with an offer of a 1.2 percent increase for the total salary sum and 2 percent for minimum wages.

GPA negotiation leader Birgit Patzak-Windisch argued that the industry's economic success justifies higher pay, noting that the IT sector achieved revenues of 44.31 billion euros in 2025, a 7.5 percent increase from the previous year. In addition to wage increases, the union is seeking improved working conditions, including paid time off on December 24 and 31, and rights regarding overtime compensation.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for November 5, 2026.
