Austria and Germany launch water safety action weeks in late July

The Austrian Samariterbund organized a nationwide "Tag gegen das Ertrinken" (Day Against Drowning) action week from July 25–26, holding events in Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Salzburg. Activities include simulated rescue scenarios, CPR training, equipment demonstrations and public boat rides on the Danube Island, aimed at preventing the surge in bathing accidents caused by unusually hot weather.

In Germany, the German Society for Maritime Rescue (DGzRS) marked the 28th "Tag der Seenotretter" (Day of Sea Rescuers) on July 26 with open‑ship exhibitions, rescue drills and technical presentations at stations along the North and Baltic Sea coasts. Visitors could watch rescue operations, learn about rescue technology and, where possible, ride on rescue boats. Both initiatives seek to raise public awareness of water safety and reduce drowning incidents.
