Austria lifts tolls on select highway stretches, easing travel for German motorists

Austria’s vignette system requires a toll sticker for most motorways, but four sections are now exempt. The Alpine‑inlet A12 between Kufstein‑Süd and Kiefersfelden in Tirol can be used without a vignette, as can the A1 West Autobahn between the Walserberg border and Salzburg‑Nord, the A14 between Hörbranz and Hohenems, and a future stretch of the A26 between Linz‑Hummelhof and the A7.

The exemption applies to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and is intended to help German drivers heading to Austrian ski resorts or onward to Italy avoid the daily vignette fee of €9.60. The information comes from the Austrian motorways and expressways financing company ASFINAG and was highlighted by the ADAC motor club.
