Austria organic food market grows to 3.4 billion euros
Organic food sales in Austria reached approximately 3.4 billion euros in 2025, representing a 7.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. According to an analysis by AMA-Marketing, this growth significantly outpaces the inflation rate of 3.7 percent, indicating that the rise is driven by increased sales volume rather than just higher prices.
Christina Mutenthaler-Sipek, Managing Director of AMA-Marketing, noted that the organic sector has regained momentum following several challenging years. The growth is evident across all sales channels, including retail, direct sales, specialty trade, and gastronomy.
While food retail accounts for roughly 80 percent of total organic turnover, the gastronomy sector showed the most dynamic development. The share of organic products in gastronomic procurement rose continuously to reach 4.5 percent in 2025. In the food retail sector, the organic share for food and beverages returned to 11 percent, matching levels seen during the pandemic in 2021 and 2022.
