Austria ski resorts prepare for 2026/27 winter season
Ski resorts across Austria are preparing for the 2026/27 winter season, with several glacier areas including Sölden, Stubai, Hintertux, and Pitztal already opening to skiers. New infrastructure is being introduced to enhance the visitor experience, such as the new "Familienglück" chairlift and a 152-meter Sunkid conveyor belt at the See ski resort in the Paznaun Valley designed for beginners and families.
However, the season faces rising costs for tourists. In the Tyrol region, daily skipass prices are increasing at a rate significantly higher than inflation. Some top-tier resorts, such as Sölden, have seen daily passes exceed 80 euros, reaching as high as 86.50 euros during peak periods. Experts note that while international competition drives investments in comfort and snowmaking, the "luxurification" of skiing is making the sport increasingly expensive.
Beyond skiing, the upcoming season features a dense calendar of events, including the FIS Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup in Gosau, the Winter Deaflympics in Innsbruck and Seefeld, and the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships in Montafon and Kühtai.
