Austria raises vignette fees, imposes record fines and flags phishing scams

Effective 1 December 2025 Austria increased the price of its motorway vignette. A 1‑day sticker now costs €9.60, a 10‑day pass €12.80, a 2‑month pass €32.00 and a 1‑year pass €106.80, up from €103.80. The paper sticker will be phased out, with a fully digital system expected from 2027.

Drivers caught without a valid vignette face record fines: €270 for each illegal trip, €200 for partial payment or mismatched licence‑plate data, and up to €3,000 if the optional replacement toll is not paid. The European Consumer Centre Germany notes the replacement toll can be offered as a settlement without court proceedings.

The Austrian highway authority ASFINAG also warned that scammers are sending fake emails that claim the driver can avoid the administrative fine by immediately purchasing a 10‑day vignette for €12.36. The emails contain phishing links that harvest credit‑card details. ASFINAG advises checking the sender’s address (must end in "@asfinag.at"), ignoring unexpected €12.36 charges, and never clicking the links.
