Austria reports rising trends in active mobility and public transport use
The Active Mobility 2026 Report indicates rising trends in walking and cycling across Austria. According to the report, 61 percent of the population can reach a public transport stop within 10 minutes via e-bike. Additionally, over 7.2 million people in the country walk for at least five minutes daily or several times a week, while more than 2.1 million people cycle regularly.
In Eisenstadt, a study conducted by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, shows a significant shift in local mobility. Since 2013, the share of car traffic in the city has dropped from 57 percent to nearly 50 percent. Conversely, public transport usage has increased from 1.4 percent to 11.3 percent, a growth attributed to the introduction of city buses and expanded cycling infrastructure.
