Austrian motorway vignette rules for trailers and ADAC member pricing

In Austria, trailers and caravans do not need a separate motorway vignette. The required vignette is attached only to the towing vehicle; if the vehicle’s permissible total weight is 3.5 tonnes or less, the standard vignette suffices regardless of the trailer’s weight. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must obtain a GO‑Box, with fees based on distance, axle count and emission class, and from 1 February 2027 only a digital vignette will be accepted.

The ADAC confirms that its members purchase the Austrian vignette at the same price as non‑members. The ADAC portal offers day and 10‑day digital vignettes without extra service fees. Buyers should avoid unofficial sellers that add surcharges, and be wary of phishing emails claiming unpaid tolls, which can lead to fines of up to €3,000.
