Austria road travel faces new 1‑day vignette rules and truck block delays

Effective 2026, Austria introduced a digital 1‑day toll vignette that costs €9.60 for cars and €3.80 for motorcycles. The vignette can be purchased online through the ASFINAG portal or app and becomes valid immediately, allowing drivers to use toll highways without waiting. Failure to display a valid vignette can result in fines ranging from €300 to €3,000.

On the same routes, the Austrian state of Tirol continues to enforce hourly truck‑block processing on the Inntalautobahn (A12) at the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border. Only 250‑300 heavy trucks (over 7.5 t) are allowed per hour, causing queues that spill back onto Germany’s A93 and A8. Bavaria has responded by imposing temporary truck‑through‑traffic bans on sections of these German highways whenever block processing is in effect, further extending travel delays for both freight and passenger vehicles heading south toward Austria and Italy.
