Austria seeks nationwide protection zones for abortion clinics
Austrian Women's Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) is advocating for the nationwide implementation of protection zones around healthcare facilities that provide abortion services. The initiative aims to prevent harassment, intimidation, and psychological pressure directed at both patients and medical staff by protesters.
Currently, such measures are possible in Vienna, but not in other federal states. Proponents, including SPÖ National Council women's spokesperson Sabine Schatz, argue that women have a right to access medical care safely and without fear of intimidation. The proposal seeks to standardize these protections across Austria, citing models used in other countries like Germany.
