Austria sees rise in business startups in Styria and Burgenland
Austria's eastern regions are experiencing a surge in new business activity. In Styria, a record 2,791 new business foundations were recorded in the first half of 2026, despite challenging economic conditions.
In Burgenland, the number of new startups rose to 805 during the same period, an increase of 60 compared to the first half of 2025. According to the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, three out of four of these new businesses are sole proprietorships. Leading sectors for these new ventures include management consulting, accounting, information technology, advertising, and personal services. The primary motivations for entrepreneurs in the region include the desire for autonomy, flexible scheduling, and increased responsibility.
