Austria selects ‘Rose’ for International Oscar race

Austria has selected the historical drama ‘Rose’, directed by Markus Schleinzer, as its official entry for the International Feature Film category at the upcoming Academy Awards. The film is an Austrian-German co-production shot in black and white.

Starring Sandra Hüller, the film follows a mysterious soldier during the Thirty Years' War who arrives in a remote Protestant village and uses deception to claim an abandoned farm. The film previously premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Streaming service Mubi has acquired the rights for several territories, including North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand. Distribution is being handled by The Match Factory.
