Austria to launch municipal data platform for 2,092 municipalities

Austrian municipalities are set to launch a new data platform designed to facilitate the exchange of administrative data across the country's 2,092 municipalities. Announced by State Secretary for Digitalization Alexander Pröll and Municipal Association President Johannes Pressl, the project aims to streamline administrative processes for citizens and increase efficiency for local governments.

Construction of the platform is scheduled to begin on January 1, with completion expected by the end of 2029. The project is supported by a joint budget of 8 million euros from the Municipal and Cities Association. The initiative focuses on unifying data currently stored in disparate local systems and establishing interfaces for data sharing.

Additionally, the project includes the creation of an internal marketplace, described as a municipal app store, which will offer standardized software and AI products for tasks such as personnel management, water meter administration, and facility management. The platform is intended to integrate with existing federal digital infrastructures, including ID Austria and the dadeX data hub, to ensure a networked administrative system rather than an isolated solution.
