Austria to reform Parent-Child Pass program in 2026

Austria is set to implement a reformed Parent-Child Pass (EKP) program starting October 1, 2026. The new regulations, established through agreements between the Austrian Medical Chamber (ÖÄK) and the Association of Social Insurance Carriers (DVSV), aim to modernize prenatal and pediatric care.

The reform introduces a new general and family medicine examination to be conducted between the 14th and 20th week of pregnancy. Additionally, a health consultation has been added to the service catalog. To support these changes, fees for existing primary EKP services will increase by approximately 20% to 23%, and a separate fee will be provided for the new pregnancy examination.

While the medical reforms are scheduled for 2026, the nationwide introduction of the electronic Parent-Child Pass (eEKP) has been delayed by one year.
