Austria to require digital highway vignette from 2027

Starting 1 February 2027 Austria will eliminate the traditional adhesive “Pickerl” toll sticker and allow only a digital vignette for all motorways. The change, announced by ASFINAG, the state‑owned highway operator, follows a transition period in 2026 when drivers can still choose between the sticker and the digital version.

The digital vignette can be bought through ASFINAG’s online shop, at more than 3 500 retail points and around 100 vending machines. Prices for 2026 were set at €9.60 for a one‑day, €12.80 for ten‑day, €32.00 for two‑month and €106.80 for a year vignette, reflecting a 2.9 % increase tied to the Austrian consumer‑price index. ASFINAG warns motorists about unauthorised sellers that copy the official website and sell over‑priced vignettes; authorised online partners include ADAC, Autopay and Tolltickets.
