Austria to transition to exclusively digital highway vignettes by 2027
Austria is set to transition exclusively to digital highway vignettes starting February 1, 2027. Currently, motorists can choose between physical adhesive stickers and digital versions for use on Austrian motorways and expressways. While both options will remain available through 2026, the Austrian government and the operator ASFINAG have confirmed the complete phase-out of physical stickers by early 2027.
For 2026, the 10-day vignette prices are set at 12.80 Euro for multi-track vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (such as cars and light motorhomes) and 5.10 Euro for single-track vehicles like motorcycles. Digital vignettes can be purchased via the ASFINAG online shop, the official app, or authorized online partners, and can be registered for immediate or future use.
Drivers must ensure the vignette is valid before entering toll roads. Failure to display a physical sticker correctly or failing to register a digital vignette can result in replacement tolls or fines ranging from 300 to 3,000 Euro.
