Austria Tourism Groups Face Legal Complaints on Funding Transparency

The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) has filed eleven complaints with the Salzburg state administrative court after eleven of fourteen regional tourism associations refused to disclose their finances under the Freedom of Information Act. The party argues that public funds and mandatory memberships require transparency, noting that millions of euros are at stake.

In Bad Gastein, finance referent Thomas Tscherne of the local tourism association has criticised the municipality’s plan to provide a €100,000 grant and acquire a 49 % stake in the Felsentherme spa without an independent audit. Mayor Norbert Ellmauer rejected the allegations, stating that the matter will be examined by the supervisory board and shareholders.
