Austria traffic: New drivers prioritize child safety amid Vienna construction
As the school year begins in Austria, commuters and drivers are facing increased traffic challenges and safety considerations. An ÖAMTC survey of new drivers indicates that most young motorists are highly attentive to children in traffic, despite many being unfamiliar with the technical definition of the 'principle of trust.' Experts emphasize that drivers should never assume children will follow traffic rules and should instead maintain readiness to brake and keep sufficient distance.
In Vienna, the return to school coincides with numerous road construction projects and traffic diversions. Major disruptions are expected on the A4 motorway between Prater and Schwechat, as well as on the Große Ungarbrücke. Additional delays are anticipated due to closures on Landstraßer Hauptstraße and various works across multiple districts, including Meidling, the 5th district, and parts of the city's western and northern areas. The ÖAMTC advises motorists to plan for longer travel times.
