Austria unemployment rises, particularly among women
The Austrian labor market is facing increased pressure, with approximately 381,200 people reported as unemployed or participating in training programs through the Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) in September. This represents a 1.6 percent increase, or about 6,000 more people, compared to the previous year.
There are significant disparities within the data. Unemployment among women has risen by 6 percent, while male unemployment saw a slight decrease of 0.6 percent. Additionally, unemployment among Austrian citizens increased by 4.3 percent, whereas unemployment among foreign nationals decreased by 0.2 percent.
Long-term unemployment is a growing concern, rising by 11 percent to reach 104,101 individuals. This group now accounts for approximately 34 percent of all people registered with the AMS. Other notable trends include a 10.1 percent increase in unemployment among academically educated individuals and a 1.5 percent decrease in youth unemployment.
