Austrian academic research examines English language learning methods

Two academic master's theses from Linz, Austria, explore different facets of English language acquisition among students.

One study investigates written corrective feedback (WCF) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction. Conducted at an upper secondary vocational school in Upper Austria, the research utilized action research cycles to compare traditional individual corrections and assessment scales against a revised feedback grid designed to clarify assessment categories, strengths, and areas for improvement.

A second study examines Extramural English (EE) engagement among Austrian lower secondary students. The research investigates how students perceive the role of English in their daily lives through digital media and other non-formal settings, utilizing a mixed-methods questionnaire to analyze student motivations and attitudes toward English engagement outside of the classroom.
