Austrian actor Johannes Krisch dies aged 59
Johannes Krisch, a 59‑year‑old Austrian actor, died early Monday morning in a Vienna hospital, confirmed by his manager Daniela Fruhmann. Krisch was a long‑time ensemble member of the Burgtheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt, and was celebrated for roles in TV series such as Tatort, SOKO Donau and Braunschlag, as well as films including Revanche, Märzengrund and Aus dem Nichts. Herbert Föttinger, director of the Josefstadt theater, called him “one of the most important actors of his generation” and praised his “rare gift to live characters in the moment”. The actor had been battling health problems for several years, which had led to a temporary pause from stage work. His death has prompted wide mourning across Austria’s cultural community.
