Austrian Airlines launches Starlink-powered high-speed Wi-Fi
Austrian Airlines has launched its first flight featuring high-speed satellite internet powered by Starlink technology. The service, branded as ‘Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi’, debuted on a new Airbus A320neo (registration OE-LXF) during a regular flight to Porto.
The new connectivity is designed to support data-intensive tasks, including video streaming and cloud-based work. Access will be free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users across all travel classes. However, the airline noted that headphones are required for audio and video content, and live video calls or live streams are not supported.
This rollout is part of a broader fleet modernization and product update. Austrian Airlines plans to equip 20 aircraft with Starlink by the end of the 2026/27 winter flight schedule. The airline is also adding six new Airbus A320neo aircraft to its fleet to gradually replace 17 Embraer planes by 2029.
On a group level, the Lufthansa Group aims to install Starlink technology on approximately 850 aircraft across its various airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, and Eurowings.
