Austrian ATX slides as semiconductor slump and Middle East tensions lift oil prices

The ATX, Austria’s flagship stock index, opened lower on Monday, slipping 0.32% to 6,464.30 points and later fell another 0.56% to 6,448.77 points. The decline was driven by weakening semiconductor stocks in Asia and a sharp escalation in U.S.–Iran tensions that pushed crude oil prices higher.

Higher oil prices boosted Austrian energy and oil‑related shares: Verbund rose 2.09%, OMV gained 2.0% and SBO climbed 1.5%. Conversely, sectors tied to lower‑cost inputs saw declines, with AT&S dropping 5.0% and Vienna Insurance falling 2.25%.

The market mood was also influenced by an ongoing bidding war for Addiko Bank, where rival offers from RBI and NLB have been adjusted. In parallel, Vienna’s airport reported a 5.9% drop in June passenger numbers, reflecting reduced low‑cost carrier services amid continuing Middle‑East instability.
