Austrian authorities detain three Romanians for illegal fentanyl patch sales
Authorities in Upper Austria have detained four individuals, including three Romanian citizens, in connection with the illegal sale of approximately 1,000 fentanyl patches. The investigation was triggered by a drug overdose involving a 29-year-old man in Linz this past July; the individual survived the incident.
The primary suspect is a 38-year-old Romanian man residing in Linz. He was detained alongside his 54-year-old mother and 62-year-old aunt. Investigators believe the fentanyl patches were obtained using medical prescriptions and subsequently distributed illegally for profit over an extended period.
Police are currently working to determine the exact roles of each suspect, the total value of the transactions, and the number of people who purchased the medication. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid used medically for severe pain management, but improper use can lead to life-threatening respiratory depression.
