Siegfried Wolf and ex‑minister Hans‑Jörg Schelling face Austrian corruption trial
Austria’s Wiener Oberlandesgericht dismissed the defence’s objection, confirming the 78‑page indictment by the Wirtschafts‑ und Korruptionsstaatsanwaltschaft (WKStA). Industrialist Siegfried Wolf – board member of Porsche Holding SE and Schaeffler – is accused of offering a senior tax‑office official a favourable tax reassessment of €630,000 (taxes from 2006‑2011) in return for his support to secure her appointment as head of the Finanzamt Baden‑Mödling. The official is also charged with abuse of office and bribery. Former finance minister Hans‑Jörg Schelling is charged with attempted abuse of office for allegedly intervening with finance‑ministry secretary‑general Thomas Schmid to obtain the tax relief for Wolf. The indictment lists 18 witnesses. No trial date has been set; proceedings are expected in late autumn and may span several days.
