Austrian Courts Issue Prison Sentences in Two Criminal Cases

A 22‑year‑old man with a history of offenses and substance abuse was sentenced by the Salzburg Regional Court to seven years in prison for an armed robbery of a gas station in the Schallmoos district. The court noted his prior convictions, gambling addiction and possession of a prohibited air‑soft pistol, adding seven months for earlier crimes.

In a separate case, a trial in Klagenfurt concerning a beer‑mug assault that left a patron with a skull fracture was postponed. The incident occurred in August at a Wolfsberg bar, where two brothers, allegedly intoxicated, struck a guest with a mug. Two women intervening were also injured. Judge Claudia Bandion‑Ortner ordered further witness testimony before the case can proceed.

Both proceedings highlight ongoing concerns about alcohol‑related violence and repeat offending in Austria’s criminal justice system.
