Austrian Economic Chamber to implement new compliance rules

Martha Schultz, head of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKÖ), has launched a reform process to implement new, modernized compliance rules across the entire organization. The new standards aim to increase transparency and establish clear responsibilities regarding contract awards, representation, gifts, nominations, and staff assignments. This move follows the resignation of the head of the Vienna Economic Chamber following the 'Ruck affair'.

The proposed guidelines will undergo a review process involving voter groups within the WKÖ economic parliament, with a decision expected from the expanded presidency in early October. The rules are slated to take effect in November.

In a separate development, Schultz has faced criticism for proposing a reduction in summer holidays from nine to six weeks. The political group Freiheitliche Wirtschaft described the proposal as a distraction from urgent economic issues and internal chamber reforms. Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr has also voiced opposition to the holiday reduction, stating that children need sufficient time to recharge for the school year.
