Austrian Environment Committee postpones opposition motions
The Austrian Environment Committee has postponed several opposition motions following votes by the ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS.
The Green Party proposed motions calling for ambitious outcomes at the COP 31 UN Climate Conference in November 2026, measures to combat oil and gas extraction in the Amazon, and a strengthening of the EU emissions trading system. They also advocated for mandatory site assessments for new landfills and relief for small businesses regarding EU packaging regulations.
In contrast, the FPÖ pushed for a more practical tax exemption for renewable gases and the abolition of national CO2 pricing. Their other motions addressed district heating costs and requirements for fish migration aids at hydroelectric power plants.
