Austrian farmers discuss drought and EU policy support

Agricultural stakeholders and representatives gathered in St. Ägidi, Schärding district, for the ‘Treffpunkt Bauernhof’ event to discuss the future of farming in Upper Austria. The discussions focused on several critical challenges, including drought, shortages of basic fodder, and the necessity of maintaining fair competitive conditions.

A primary focus for the young farmers' association (Jungbauernschaft Schärding) was the upcoming restructuring of EU agricultural policy starting in 2027. Participants emphasized that farm takeovers must remain affordable for the next generation, calling for targeted support for young farmers to ensure the continuity of agricultural operations.

The event also featured a tour of a new processing and cooling facility for the Sauwald-Erdäpfel producer group, which markets approximately 1,300 tons of potatoes annually.
