Austrian Finance Minister Marterbauer says chemo is successful and budget outlook positive

Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer (SPÖ) made his first public appearance since announcing a lymphoma diagnosis at the summer minister council in Salzburg. He said he began chemotherapy two weeks ago, that the treatment is proceeding well and that he feels "very fit" after a short holiday in the Waldviertel. Marterbauer confirmed he intends to remain in office while undergoing therapy, with the treatment schedule arranged to allow him to fulfil his duties.

He also briefed on Austria's finances, noting that the first‑half‑year budget performed "right good" and is slightly above plan, with positive trends in states and municipalities thanks to the stability pact. The minister added that Austria has applied for the final €300 million tranche of the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund, bringing total EU support to about €4 billion. No new funding will be allocated for the costs of the upcoming military service reform.
