Austrian Football Association seeks new sports director

The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) is actively searching for a new sports director following the departure of Peter Schöttel. Josef Pröll, the chairman of the supervisory board, stated that there is no single favorite for the position and emphasized the need for candidates to present clear concepts for grassroots football development.

The new director is expected to work on equal footing with the national team coach, Ralf Rangnick. Regarding the circumstances of Schöttel’s exit, Pröll denied that Rangnick was involved in the decision, noting that the team coach was informed of the plan after it was established. However, observers have noted that the professional relationship between Schöttel and Rangnick was reportedly strained, with decisions often being made without Schöttel’s involvement.
