Austrian Free Radios launch program on poverty and social inequality

Fourteen Free Radios in Austria are launching a joint programming series titled ‘Armes reiches Land – Sozialstaat unter Druck’ (Poor Rich Country – Social State Under Pressure). Running from October 27 to November 13, 2026, the series consists of 14 daily episodes designed to explore various facets of poverty and resource access.

The program aims to examine how the widening gap between the wealthy and the poor impacts social participation, democratic processes, and the stability of the rule of law. The broadcasters intend to highlight local projects, scientific debates, and the lived realities of those affected by economic hardship. Specific topics include the history of social legislation and child poverty, noting that one in four children in Austria is at risk of poverty and exclusion.
