Austrian handball enters new season with major sponsorship and roster changes

The Austrian handball landscape is undergoing significant changes for the 2026/27 season. Finanzfuchsgruppe has expanded its partnership with Handball Ligen Austria (HLA) to become the main sponsor and naming-rights partner. Consequently, the top division will be known as the ‘MEHRLEBEN HLA MEISTERLIGA powered by Finanzfuchsgruppe’, while the second tier will be the ‘MEHRLEBEN HLA CHALLENGE powered by Finanzfuchsgruppe’.

In club news, HSG Holding Graz is entering the new season with a restructured roster and new leadership. Following the retirement of Florian Schimmel and several player departures, the club has secured the high-profile signing of Martin Breg from BT Füchse. Additionally, Risto Arnaudovski begins his first full season as head coach after previously serving in an interim capacity. The team is set to face cup winner Förthof UHK Krems in their season opener on September 5.
