Iran warns of winter energy shortages after production losses

The Iranian government has issued a warning to its citizens regarding potential energy shortages during the upcoming winter. Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohadscherani stated that significant production capacity has been lost due to attacks on the energy sector attributed to Israeli-American actions during the Iran war.

Mohadscherani reported a loss of nearly 230 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, which represents approximately one-quarter of the nation's total production. The government is currently attempting to restore 100 million cubic meters of that lost capacity.

While Iran possesses vast resources, including the South Pars gas field—the world's largest known gas reserve shared with Qatar—the government noted that international sanctions have long hindered the modernization of energy infrastructure. Officials warned that energy supply issues are particularly likely to affect the northern provinces.
