Austrian national team undergoes squad overhaul for Nations League
Austrian national team coach Ralf Rangnick has announced a significant overhaul of the 27-man squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Israel and Kosovo. The new roster features several newcomers, including potential debutants Lukas Jungwirth, Christian Zawieschitzky, Felix Bacher, Nikolas Veratschnig, Vasilije Markovic, and Christoph Lang.
Several prominent players are absent from the selection. Longtime captain David Alaba was not included due to his current status as a free agent and a lack of competitive match practice. Additionally, Marko Arnautovic remains retired from the national team, Marcel Sabitzer is taking a planned break, and Christoph Baumgartner is unavailable due to injury.
Returning to the squad is defender Maximilian Wöber, who missed the recent World Cup due to injury. Other returning players include Junior Adamu and Marco Grüll. The defensive line will be bolstered by Wöber alongside Philipp Lienhart, Kevin Danso, and Stefan Posch.
