Austrian opposition denounces costly Linz and Vienna city projects

In Linz, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) criticised the €424,000 redesign of the Volksgarten entrance, calling it a luxury experiment that does not solve the long‑standing problems of the southern Landstraße and wastes taxpayers’ money. The party argued that funds would be better spent on street cleaning, business support measures and increased police presence.

In Vienna, the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) accused the SPÖ‑Neos city administration of mismanaging the planned AI gigafactory and computing centre, saying the initiative has stalled, lacks a clear implementation plan and represents a lost opportunity to strengthen the city’s tech sector. The ÖVP called for transparency, a concrete roadmap and the use of any existing infrastructure, such as waste‑heat integration, to benefit the city.
