Austria and Germany report widespread Halloween incidents
Police across Austria and Germany reported numerous incidents during Halloween celebrations. In Vienna, hundreds of officers were deployed to manage public order, prevent vandalism, and combat the illegal use of pyrotechnics. Authorities noted specific concerns regarding social media calls for violence and the use of prohibited fireworks, particularly those imported from the Czech Republic. In the Austrian state of Styria, a large-scale operation in the Leibnitz district resulted in the seizure of narcotics, anabolic steroids, and pyrotechnics, alongside numerous traffic violations.
In Germany, the holiday saw various disturbances, including attacks on police in Halle and Berlin, where pyrotechnics were thrown at buses and officers. In Berlin, protesters reportedly set fire to trash containers and moved e-scooters into the roadway. Other reported incidents included the discovery of metal needles in candy in Thuringia and pepper spray injuries at a party in Dresden.
Separate from Halloween-related activities, several significant fires and accidents occurred across the regions. A large fire destroyed a vacant building in Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn, Austria, while a residential fire in Traun required a neighbor to rescue a woman using a ladder. In Germany, a milk tanker caught fire on the A7 motorway, and a major multi-vehicle collision on the A6 near Waldmohr resulted in several injuries and a prolonged highway closure.
