Austrian police investigate disappearance of 68 tons of aluminum
Austrian police are investigating the disappearance of three shipments totaling more than 68 tons of aluminum. The cargo, which was being transported from Italy, failed to reach its intended destinations in Germany, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
A company based in Tyrol, responsible for organizing the transport, reported the incident after the shipments failed to arrive. The Tyrolean firm had hired a Bulgarian-based enterprise to conduct the deliveries. Suspicion has increased because the transport company has been unreachable since Tuesday.
Investigators in Straß im Kaunertal are working to reconstruct the movement of the vehicles to determine if the goods were stolen or if the entire operation was a premeditated fraud. While the exact value of the missing aluminum has not been disclosed, it is expected to represent significant material damage. The investigation has taken on an international dimension due to the multiple countries involved in the transport route.
