Austrian police warn against fake police calls using German number +49 4558 48219

The Upper Austrian police in the Kirchdorf an der Krems district reported eight incidents since Thursday, 25 June 2026, of callers pretending to be police officers. The scammers use the German telephone number +49 4558 48219 and claim that recent burglaries have taken place near older residents. They say a suspect has already been arrested and threaten to target the victims' valuables, also asking about household staff such as caregivers or tradespeople.

Police urge anyone receiving such a call to end the conversation immediately, not disclose any information about assets or personal circumstances, and contact the authorities without delay. As one police statement warned, “Beenden Sie derartige Gespräche sofort und geben Sie keinesfalls Auskunft über Vermögenswerte oder persönliche Verhältnisse.”
