Austrian Radio Highlights Freies Radio Salzkammergut and Antenne

Freies Radio Salzkammergut, a community‑run station in Austria, airs authentic folk music drawn from a private archive of over 20,000 recordings. The programme, hosted by Werner Miklautsch, has been on air since 1 April 2018 and, as of 1 April 2024, also broadcasts on every Austrian public holiday, featuring regional choirs, brass bands and contributions from South Tyrol, Bavaria, Lower Austria and Carinthia.

Gottfried Bichler, chief executive of the Styria‑Radio group that operates Antenne Steiermark, Antenne Kärnten and Radio Flamingo, called for “fair framework conditions” for the radio sector during a 2026 industry test interview. He emphasized the need for supportive regulatory policies to sustain live radio’s role in the media landscape.
