Austrian Samuela Haderlab Settles in Bosnia, Urges Expat Return
Austrian citizen Samuela Haderlab left Carinthia and moved to a farm near Pelagićevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she cultivates vegetables, raises hazelnuts, harvests firewood and produces traditional Bosnian cheese. She lives on a large estate with Bosnian partner Kiran, using well water and a forested hectare for heating.
Haderlab says Bosnia offers everything she needs and encourages other educated Bosnians living abroad to return, claiming the country has changed for the better over the past decades. She is awaiting a long‑term visa and hopes to obtain Bosnian citizenship.
The story highlights a personal example of reverse migration and the promotion of self‑sufficient rural life in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
