Austrian Survey Finds 11% Skip Deodorant and Antiperspirant

A market study conducted for the Kosmetik Transparent platform surveyed over 1,000 Austrian participants. The results show that 56.8 % use deodorant, about 9 % use antiperspirants, and 16 % use both, while 11.1 % report using neither product.

Among those who avoid deodorants or antiperspirants, 32.5 % say they consider them unnecessary, 11.4 % believe they do not sweat or smell, and 7 % avoid them because of ingredient concerns such as aluminium or chemicals. Smaller shares cite allergies (6 %), a preference for natural alternatives (5.3 %), dislike of the scent (3.5 %), or a feeling that the product is ineffective (1.8 %).

Knowledge gaps also appear: 30 % say they understand the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant, 23 % do not know the distinction, 37 % are unsure, and 10 % were unaware that a difference exists. The survey highlights varied motivations ranging from personal hygiene and social courtesy to confidence and perceived protection against embarrassing moments.
