Austrian universities implement academic reforms and new campus openings

Austrian higher education institutions are implementing significant updates as the new academic year approaches. At Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, 13,000 students are preparing for a semester marked by structural changes. Notably, the teaching degree (Lehramt) bachelor program has been shortened from four years to three, leading to increased demand. The university is also introducing twelve new combination bachelor programs designed to enhance employability by allowing students to pair subjects like humanities with management or technical fields. Additionally, a new mandatory psychotherapy master's program has seen high interest.

In Burgenland, the Hochschule Burgenland is launching a new campus in Pinkafeld following a 70 million euro investment. The facility, constructed by Landesimmobilien Burgenland (LIB), consists of nine buildings including lecture halls, laboratories, and seminar rooms. Designed to eventually accommodate 1,400 students, the campus focuses on health, building, and energy technology. The site aims for energy autonomy through the use of 183 geothermal probes for heating and cooling, supplemented by a 200-KWP photovoltaic system.
