Austrian Wirtschaftskammer to cut 200 jobs in Vienna as part of €100 million savings plan

President Martha Schultz of the Austrian Wirtschaftskammer (WKO) announced that 200 of the 800 staff positions in the Bundeskammer in Vienna will be eliminated by the end of 2027, representing roughly one‑quarter of the workforce. The cuts are part of a broader effort to achieve annual savings of €100 million by 2030, with the aim of reducing member contributions and reallocating resources to high‑impact services.

The regional Wirtschaftskammer Niederösterreich (WKNÖ) is also implementing savings measures, targeting €13 million in annual reductions by 2030. The plan includes a 25 percent cut to the “Kammerumlage 2” contribution for businesses and a 15 percent reduction in personnel and material costs, achieved primarily through non‑replacement of retirements and natural staff turnover, without additional layoffs. About 100 employees are expected to be affected by these efficiency drives.
