Austria's corporate insolvencies dip in Q2 while Oberösterreich sees rise

Preliminary data from Statistik Austria show that corporate insolvencies in Austria fell to 1,668 in the second quarter of 2026, a 3 % decrease compared with the same period in 2025 and 4.1 % lower than in the first quarter of 2026. The most affected sectors were financial and other services (489 cases), trade (262), construction (260) and hospitality (246). Registrations of legal entities also dropped 11.1 % to 15,533, with the highest numbers of new registrations in financial services (4,786), personal services (3,167) and trade.

Creditreform’s half‑year report for Oberösterreich, however, indicates a contrasting trend. The state recorded 401 company insolvencies – about a 4 % rise year‑on‑year – while private insolvencies surged 15 % to 836 cases, one of the strongest increases nationwide. Creditreform attributes the pressure to high personnel and energy costs, weak demand, and rising household expenses. The association expects both corporate and private insolvency levels to remain high in the second half of the year.
